The history of Courtesy Chevrolet began in August 1955 when Edward J. Fitzgerald arrived in Phoenix from Los Angeles, where he had worked with R. Mitchel McClure. Together, they began Courtesy Chevrolet in an old farmhouse on the outskirts of Phoenix.

In 1957, Courtesy Chevrolet moved a few blocks west down the street to the present facility at 1233 East Camelback Road. Since that time, Courtesy has prospered, grown and expanded to include more properties in Phoenix on East Pierson Street and Bell Road, and the dealership here in San Diego.

Mr. Fitzgerald purchased Mr. McClure's share of the business in 1969, and in 1981, Mr. Fitzgerald included Mr. William R. Gruwell as a partner, where Mr. Gruwell today is the Vice President and Dealer Operator. Upon the passing of Mr. Fitzgerald in 2000, Mr. Gruwell became a partner with Mrs. Fitzgerald, and both of Gruwell's sons currently work in management positions in the Phoenix area Courtesy Chevrolet.

San Diego's Courtesy Chevrolet has been in the Mission Valley area for over 40 years, conveniently located next to Mission Valley Center shopping mall and restaurants. The Gruwells and Fitzgeralds took over in the early 1980s, and we continue to be family owned and managed.

Because we're not a big, impersonal corporation, we take pride in our great customer service. We go the extra mile to make sure our customers are happy like providing a free service shuttle to and from the mall and our customers' homes and offices, plus, offering rental cars on-site. Because of that, we have received more General Motors Corporation Dealer of the Year awards than any other GM dealer in the nation.

We have a huge selection of new Chevrolet vehicles and one of the largest body shops and parts departments in Southern California. In addition, our lenders have been doing business with us for years, so we've established excellent relationships with them. That means we can offer better finance deals and approvals than most dealers.

The Gruwell and Fitzgerald families plan to always maintain valuable relationships within the community and operate Courtesy Chevrolet with the highest standards here in San Diego for many years to come.
